The " Home Latin " hotel is built on a historic site.
In 1171, the buildings of the "maison de l'hopital" the oldest hospital foundation otherwise called the hospital foundation of the order of saint John of Jerusalem or order of the knights of Rhodes and Malta, were built this site.
The house became the knights "a Commanderie", headquarters in the thirteenth century and in the fifteenth century took the name of Saint John of Latran in order to commemorate the spiritual link with the Roman basilica of the same name, the mother of all Christian churches since 329 A.D..
Let us recall, that, since Henry the fourth, all the French sovereigns and French heads of state have been and still, honorary ministers of Saint John of Latran basilica, where each year, on the 13th of december, they celebrate a mass for France, the Church's eldest daughter.The Saint John of Latran enclosure in which we find ourselves once comprised churches and chapels, a cemetery and a cloister, a house and its precincts with a courtyard and a garden for the Commander of the knighthood.
This Commander (still a priest in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and then a knight) lived there together with ten other members of the order, knights and brothers, serving them as well as four chaplains, to celebrate the daily religious offices.
